This show began with Randy Orton coming out in a red tapout shirt and a black vest, Orton is questoning Bray Wyatt. Orton is talking about how he isn't remotely scared of Bray Wyatt. Orton demands that Bray comes to the ring right now and fights him, Bray Wyatt then appears on the titantron. Wyatt is talking about how he is a god, Wyatt has one of those hour glasses (where sand filters through to signal time passing). Wyatt is singing the 'He's got the whole world in his hands' to end the segment. Fun little 6 minute segment here.
Backstage Dean Ambrose is interviewed about his thoughts on AJ Styles, Ambrose made the comment 'Not much of what I'm thinking is allowed on a PG show', that was great. Ambrose talks about how Styles says he beat Cena, well Ambrose beat Cena last week. The first in ring action of the night was an 8 Man Tag Team Match which saw American Alpha team up with Rhino and Heath Slater to take on The Usos and The Ascension. I am really liking the Usos now, now that you can tell who's who (Jimmy Uso wears shirt, Jey doesn't).
This match was pretty entertaining, Heath Slater eventually got the hot tag, he came in and was taking everyone out. Before the match they showed a picture of him with his new big pool for his kids. The ending to this match saw Jey Uso submit Heath Slater to a Boston Crab. Just think about it, The Ascension got a win and I'm not complaining. Backstage John Cena is interviewed, Cena is talking about he will watch tonight's main event very closely so that he will be able to say in 2 weeks that the 16 time champ is here.
Then we see The Miz walking through the backstage area, since this is Quicken Loans arena there is a giant picture and bio on the wall of Lebron James. Miz gets a pictures of himself put over the top of Lebron. At the commentary desk JBL is being a tool, then Wyatt's thing pops up on the screen. We see Randy Orton wandering into a dark room, he moves this thing that's on the wall 180 degrees before walking off. The camera pans to the shadows where Erick Rowan is standing there with a really cool mask on, this show is really entertaining thusfar. And we haven't even had Shane or Bryan on yet.
Following a commercial break Bray Wyatt cuts a quick titantron promo about a time vortex and all this. Then we get Nikki Bella and Naomi vs. Natalya and Carmella, one of the many things that is making Smackdown better then RAW (besides the hour difference) is the little promos that both teams got too do beforehand. It made me care a little bit about this match. During this match Naomi did a moonwalk, that was cool. Natalya and Carmella beat down Naomi the whole match, then Nikki Bella got the hot tag. Nikki cleaned house, Carmella then got tagged in, eventually Carmella rolled up Nikki for the pin.
Backstage Orton is in a boiler room Orton is looking around at the walls which have writing on them, the messages included 'I am a god' and 'one way out, choose wisely' among others. Orton opens a door to reveal a standee of himself that's had the eyes cut out. Orton then walks over to another door. He opens it slowly, I loved that shot of Orton peaking through the door to see Erick Rowan and he really awesome mask standing in the dark room. Orton closes the door and walks off, this ends with the camera zooming in on the door which has a handle shaking.
To begin the 2nd hour of Smackdown we get The Miz's Homecoming, if this segment was done four months ago on Monday Night RAW I would hate it, I'd reject it. But here it worked, Miz showed a video package of his career, Miz then tells his parents to stand up and be acknowledged by Cleveland. Miz then acknowledges Dolph Ziggler's parents who are in the audience. Miz says to Ziggler's parents that they gave birth to a loser. Ziggler comes out and starts getting passionate about how the Miz cheated.
Then The Miz does an amazing heel promo about how he'd be embarrassed if he had Ziggler's career...Miz is so good as a heel. Miz storms off, Ziggler then calls him back and says that maybe his career didn't turn out the right way but he can't do anything else. Ziggler then says that he will put his career on the line for the Intercontinental Title. The Miz then runs into the ring and makes sure he heard that right, it then gets announced for No Mercy...what a segment that was.
After a commercial Bray Wyatt does another little promo, then WWE Smackdown Women's Champion Becky Lynch is making her entrance. But Alexa Bliss ambushes her from behind, Alexa and he ridiculous hair style lay out Becky on the ramp. She says that Becky doesn't deserve the title, Alexa does...this was really quick but really effective. What came next was Bray Wyatt doing another titantron promo shouting "WHERE ARE YOU RANDY?", then Orton shows up in Rowan's old sheep mask behind him. Orton scares off Wyatt, he sits down on a stool and starts laughing, I don't even know what came next...
Backstage WWE World Heavyweight Champion AJ Styles is interviewed, he talks about how this isn't the Presidential Debate, Cena and Ambrose need to get rid of these pathetic insults. Styles says that he is going to retain. John Cena comes out and we go to commercial, after the commercial Ambrose and Styles come down. The WWE World Heavyweight Championship Match was a great way to finish this really entertaining wrestling show, AJ Styles vs. Dean Ambrose w/John Cena on commentary. The juxtaposition here was ridiculous, there was a commercial for the two goons that will be on RAW next Monday, and then this really entertaining World Title match.
Mauro Ranallo mentioned at one point during this match that Dean Ambrose has been a workhorse this year, competing in the most matches in the WWE. Tomorrow I will be putting together a Blog that will be titled something along the lines of 'Blog 354: 10 Reason Why Smackdown Live Is WAY BETTER Then Monday Night RAW'. This match (and show) left me wanting more, I don't know when the last time was that I felt that way. During the match I really liked when Ambrose was lying on his stomach with his arm over Styles who was on his back, then Ambrose started slamming Styles into the mat.
In this match Ambrose was selling at left knee injury, I don't know if it's because I am starting to watch matches a bit more closely. But Ambrose and Styles were both hitting some unique moves i.e. Ambrose was outside the ring leaning on the apron, then Styles did a running knee to Ambrose. The ending to this match saw Styles shove over Cena, Styles then got back into the ring and was rolled up by Ambrose for 2. Then Ambrose went and shoved Cena, Styles rolled Ambrose up and held his tights for the 3 count. After the match Cena hit an AA on both Styles and Ambrose, to end the show standing tall with the WWE World Heavyweight Championship belt.
Overall Show Rating: Pretty Good; I don't know the exact name of the lead booker of Smackdown Live!, but whoever it is doing it does an incredible job. I left this show wanting more, I want to see what happens next week with Cena / Styles / Ambrose, what will happen next week? Will they do a contract signing? who knows? Then there is the stuff with The Miz and Dolph Ziggler, going into tonight I didn't really care for it. But then they did that great segment tonight, now I care.
The Randy Orton v Bray Wyatt and Erick Rowan stuff was brilliant, I loved seeing Orton in the boiler room confronting Erick Rowan. The fact that there are 2 different women's storylines make that division feel more important, and lastly the tag teams. That 8 man tag was entertaining, and it built up the Usos. Keep in mind that Shane McMahon and Daniel Bryan weren't even on this show, how many times do you think Stephanie and Mick were on this weeks RAW...way too many.
So that was Smackdown, this weeks episode was definitely worth a watch. Tomorrow I will be up with my 10 Reasons Why Smackdown Is Destroying RAW Blog, so until then peace!
