1. Six Man Tag Team Match
The Miz, Alberto Del Rio and R-Truth vs. Rey Mysterio, John Morrison and Kofi Kingston
The Miz comes out and cuts a little promo about how the powers that be have finally notice him so he wants the fans to appreciate him. This match was basically the six guys who the WWE pushed in the six months prior being thrown together because they had nothing to do at SummerSlam 2011. Mysterio was WWE Champion three weeks prior, Del Rio was the Money in the Bank Contract holder, John Morrison was in the WWE Championship match three months prior, R-Truth was in the WWE Championship match two months prior, The Miz Main Evented WrestleMania 27 and Kofi is always on the WWE's radar.
My highlight of the match was Miz's Modified DDT to Kofi which looked really nice, the ending saw Mysterio set up Miz and Truth for the double 619 but Del Rio trips Mysterio's feet. Morrison hits a spinning corkscrew to Del Rio thus taking him out, Mysterio hits a 619 to R-Truth before Kofi takes down Miz, Mysterio hits a frog splash to R-Truth for the pinfall victory for his team.
Rating-***, Time-9:36, Winners-Rey Mysterio, John Morrison and Kofi Kingston
Backstage CM Punk is on the end of a lecture from John Laurinaitis about how he should respect him and apologise to him, Punk sarcastically apologises to Laurinaitis before Laurinaitis walks off. Stephanie McMahon then comes in and wished Punk luck on behalf of HHH, Vince and Cena, she goes to shake Punk's hand but Punk makes the classics line "I would, but I know where that hands bin".
2. Singles Match
Sheamus vs. Mark Henry
I could never get into this match, it was probably because I find it hard to watch two big men hitting each other for a period of time. The match itself was actually solid, there was nothing special here. This match was basically to continue Mark Henry's Hall of Pain but at the same time not completely ruining Sheamus' momentum. That's why this match was ended in a count out therefore Mark Henry gets the win in this match.
Rating-**1/2, Time-9:22, Winner-Mark Henry Via Count-Out
Backstage Christian is interviewed by Josh Matthews, Christian was really confident in this interview about how he will beat Randy Orton at SummerSlam in front of the Los Angeles Crowd...resembled a Seth Rollins interview.
Cee Lo Green Perform "Bright Lights, Bigger City"; This was a pretty good performance of two songs that are pretty good, although my opinion still stays that these are wrestling shows (entertainment shows as the WWE like to put it not musical performances, if I wanted to watch those I would watch MTV). The Bella Twins, Alicia Fox and Rosa Mendes were all dancing around with Cee Lo because they had nothing else to do at SummerSlam 2011.
3. Singles Match for the WWE Divas Championship
Kelly Kelly (C) w/Eve Torres vs. Beth Phoenix w/Natalya
This was a pretty entertaining Divas Match, the combination of Kelly Kelly and Beth Phoenix was interesting when they first started having matches with each other. Then they had four Pay Per View Matches (I think) from SummerSlam 2011 to TLC 2011. Following six minutes of entertaining women's wrestling Kelly Kelly reversed the Glam Slam into a roll up for the 1...2...3 to retain the WWE Divas Championship in a solid match.
Rating-***, Time-6:33, Winner-Kelly Kelly (C) to Retain the WWE Divas Championship
Stephanie McMahon is shown walking out of John Cena's dressing room...
There is a segment backstage where R-Truth is rambling about a conspiracy to Jimmy Hart. Jimmy Hart talks about who he managed in the past before a Los Angeles Lakers small forward and his daughter are shown laughing at the whole thing.
4. Singles Match
Daniel Bryan vs. Wade Barrett
I was naturally going to be interested in this match because the two competitors were Daniel Bryan and Wade Barrett, they're both great in ring workers who can put on a good match on any day. These two put on a pretty good 12 minute match, I really enjoyed the 50/50 atmosphere of the match as it makes it seem unpredictable (despite knowing the winner I want the match to feel back and forth). Daniel Bryan was locking in submission holds on Barrett left and right including a geatine, but in the end Wade Barrett would hit the Winds of Change into the Wasteland for the 1...2...3 to defeat Daniel Bryan.
This match was the beginning of the tradition where the Smackdown Money in the Bank Contract Holder loses at SummerSlam, it happened the following year at SummerSlam 2012 when Dolph Ziggler lost to Chris Jericho and it happened at SummerSlam 2013 to Damien Sandow. Where did Barrett go after winning this match? I honestly can't remember...
Rating-***1/2, Time-11:47, Winner-Wade Barrett
5. No Holds Barred Match for the World Heavyweight Championship
Christian (C) vs. Randy Orton
Christian makes his entrance before getting on the mic and saying that he has a surprise for tonight, that surprise is his best friend...the Rated R Superstar Edge. Edge says that he passed the torch onto Christian, but Christian started complaining week after week after week. He asked for rematch after rematch after rematch but he did it by DQ, Edge did it with pnash. Edge goes onto say that he didn't know his friend would go on to be a whining, crying, moaning little b****. Randy Orton comes out only moments after which sets the scene that Christian has been put in his place and that he will be facing a more level headed Christian.
This match was GREAT, it was a really good PG Era No Holds Barred Match. There was no blood (besides Orton's thumb) in this match but the effective use of weapons made this match so good. First off, Randy Orton hit Christian with a top rope suplex onto the wood of a table, the table wasn't even set up...that got Orton 2. Orton hit Christian in the gut with a steel chair which sent him threw a table at ringside, Orton RKO'd Christian threw the Spanish Announce Table at one point.
Then there was the ending, following Christian going threw the table at ringside Orton hit him with a DDT onto a trash can which they sold a lot but in theory their trash cans are so flimsy. Orton then smashed Christian a few times with a Kendo Stick, Orton powerslammed Christian threw a table set up up the corner. Eventually Orton went to RKO Christian on the Steel Steps but Christian countered, Christian went for a crossbody off the second rope but Orton caught him into an RKO on the Steel Steps which was an OMG Moment that gave Randy Orton the pinfall to become the NEW World Heavyweight Champion at SummerSlam. What a Great Match that was, I will definitely be rewatching that some time soon.
Rating-****1/2, Time-23:43, Winner-Randy Orton to Win the World Heavyweight Championship
They show highlights of SummerSlam Axxess and all the events going on around the Los Angeles area for SummerSlam 2011.
Triple H and Stephanie McMahon are shown talking, the camera was twenty meters away from them so you couldn't hear anything.
6. Singles Match to Determine the Undisputed WWE Champion w/Triple H as Special Guest Referee
CM Punk (C) vs. John Cena (C)
This match was not as good as their match from the month prior at Money in the Bank but this match was still entertaining. Just like the match at Money in the Bank this match was very much back and forth with lots of nearfalls, edge of your seat moments and drama. One of the more memorable spots in this match saw CM Punk hit an Outside Dive on John Cena but they were both laid out for a 9 count, Triple H was about to count 10 but then he jumped out of the ring, picked up both men and threw them back into the ring.
The last five minutes of this match was full of close calls; Cena hit Punk with an Attitude Adjustment for 2, he went for the leg drop from the top rope but Punk got out of the way before hitting the GTS for 2. Punk hit the Macho Man Top Rope Elbow Drop for another 2 count, Cena rolled Punk up for 2, Punk hit Cena with a running knee. These two then threw punches back and forth before Punk hit two high knees into another Go To Sleep for the 1...2...3, John Cena's foot was on the rope but Triple H didn't see. Therefore your Undisputed WWE Champion is CM PUNK.
After the match was where all the drama took place; John Cena was questioning Triple H's call but Triple H was saying that he couldn't see it. Punk was celebrating all around ringside, he was posing on the top rope with the WWE Championship Belt when Kevin Nash came storming threw the crowd. Nash attacked Punk before hitting him with a Jacknife Powerbomb, Nash leaves threw the crowd leaving Punk lifeless in the ring...Alberto Del Rio comes down with another official.
Rating-****, Time-24:17, Winner-CM Punk to Win the Undisputed WWE Championship
7. Singles Match for the WWE Championship
CM Punk (C) vs. Alberto Del Rio
Del Rio delivers a superkick to CM Punk's head for the 1...2...3 to Win the WWE Championship, Triple H is watching this whole thing in absolute shock. He has know idea what's going on, the commentary team has know idea what's going on. Confusion reigns supreme at the end of SummerSlam 2011.
Rating-N/a, Time-00:12, Winner-Alberto Del Rio to Win the Undisputed WWE Championship
Overall Show Rating-8.25/10; I really enjoyed this SummerSlam, I thought there was nothing on this show that was bad. I didn't really enjoy the Mark Henry vs. Sheamus match but in reality it was a solid match. The ending to the Main Event was done really well as it makes you want to see the WWE's plans going forward, I want to watch the Post SummerSlam 2011 RAW right now.
Randy Orton vs. Christian in a No Holds Barred Match was my Match of the Night as it delivered a stellar brawl/fight for a PG Show. The use of weapons was also really good, Wade Barrett vs. Daniel Bryan, the Six Man Tag Opener and The Divas Match were also worth a watch.
